Brandkind people: Marjut Väänänen
Project Manager Marjut Väänänen handles projects as smoothly as a well-executed athletic performance. Clear goals guide teamwork, and after an excellent result, cheers follow.

Juggling many balls in the air – that’s Marjut’s comfort zone. “Keeping all the threads in my hands and coordinating comprehensive, diverse projects is the most challenging and fun thing – simply the best,” Marjut says.
Brandkind’s clients can attest to Marjut’s project management skills, as she ensures that all necessary information is communicated to them in a timely manner and that projects progress as agreed. Internally, she is a valuable balancing factor, ensuring that things stay within the agreed-upon framework and that the creative team has space to do their work well. Brandkind would certainly not be the same company without Marjut’s firm guidance.
Many changes
Marjut has just completed 24 years in advertising and marketing, eight years of those with Brandkind. Prior to that, she worked on the customer’s side in a technical role. “The idea was to go and learn and also see how things are done on the advertising agency’s side, and then move back to the customer side. But things turned out differently, and I’m glad they did.” Previous experience has been highly beneficial in understanding customer needs. ”Nowadays, there’s a lot of ‘it should have been done yesterday’ attitude because everything else in life has become more hectic.”
In the past, various print jobs took considerably more time before the work could reach the printing press. For example, the proofing process for prints was extensive, carefully examined with loupes and messengers would shuttle them around the city. In the digital age, everything is conveniently done with a simple press of a button, and you don’t see people taking the time to really stop and think about the issue at hand as often.
Continuous learning
Whatever field the customer and case may be from, Marjut tackles it. However, she has mostly worked on projects in the forest industry, and those remain her favorite projects, unfortunately becoming rarer nowadays. “Complex printing jobs with various printing solutions and materials. The excitement, touch and feel when the finished print job comes off the machine, and you see the results achieved. It was equally interesting to delve into and learn about different printing technology solutions.”
The digitalization of the industry has brought with it a lot of useful tools and made communication easier, especially as the customer base and operating environment are becoming increasingly international. “Digital solutions have their own interesting, new opportunities, even though they are not tangible,” Marjut laughs.
This is how it’s done
Marjut is also an award-winning track and field coach, which partly explains her determined attitude. “Spending an hour or two a day on the side of the pitch always brings new energy to my day. Working with young people also helps me keep up with the times and be trend-conscious,” she says.
The recipe for customer satisfaction sounds pretty similar in both sports and the advertising world.”I stick to agreed-upon things with quality and cost-effectiveness. The best reward is when customers still want to continue working with me.”
